NMDOH has Announced COVID-19 Screening in Torrance County

ESTANCIA, NM – Due to three confirmed cases in Torrance County, the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) has announced COVID-19 screening for residents. Those with internet access are encouraged to utilize NMDOH’s Should I be Tested screening tool between now and Wednesday April 1st, to determine their need for COVID-19 testing. After completion, if testing is recommended, residents should call 505-222-6530 to schedule an appointment for sample collection and testing.

Residents who do not have internet access will be asked to call the Torrance County Public Health Office to speak with a nurse to determine their need for possible COVID-19 testing. For the safety of the community, residents should not drive to the public health office.

Testing will be provided for the following individuals:

People experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 infection: fever, cough, or shortness of breath;
People who have recently traveled from Europe (to include Italy), China, Iran, South Korea, or U.S. states with confirmed community spread.

Screening will only be provided to those who have completed either the internet based questionnaire or spoken with a Torrance County public health nurse and received a recommendation for testing. Seasonal allergies with symptoms such as sneezing, and itchy eyes, nose or throat is not an indication for testing.
