Torrance County Offices Close to Public in Response to Governor Lujan Grisham’s Latest Order

- Media Advisory -

ESTANCIA, NM – In response to Governor Lujan Grisham’s order directing the public not to gather in groups of more than five individuals, Torrance County will close to the public. Non-essential departments have been directed to reduce staff to no more than five employees in any office during the work day, through tele-work or rotating schedules.

All County departments will remain open and will conduct business via phone, mail, email, and in some cases dropoff boxes. The public is encouraged to call with questions about how they may access County services.

Staffing restrictions and closures do not affect critical response departments, the Sheriff’s Office, or Emergency Fire and Medical services.

The Torrance County Commission will conduct its regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday, March 25th. While this meeting required by the Open Meetings Act to be open, the public is encouraged to honor the Governor’s order and voluntarily stay away. County management is requesting that the Commission defer all but the most pressing and timely agenda items including an emergency declaration, so that the public may more fully participate at a future meeting. In addition, the County is working on alternative methods for the public to attend electronically.

We will continue update the public and the media regarding any changes in the County’s operational posture.
